Nationally coordinated by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) together with the Cyprus Financial Literacy and Education Committee (CyFLEC), Global Money Week 2026 brought together a wide network of organisations across Cyprus. Participating organisations included the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), Financial Wellbeing Institute, University of Cyprus (UCY), Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, Ministry of Finance, Youth Board of Cyprus, Junior Achievement Cyprus, Artemis Credit Bureau, CFA Society Cyprus, PwC Cyprus, ICAEW Cyprus, Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC), and the Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE).

Through educational activities, school initiatives, lectures, digital campaigns and practical resources, the campaign engaged audiences ranging from primary and secondary school students to university students, educators, professionals and the wider public.

Workshops, Seminars and Educational Activities

A wide range of workshops, seminars, webinars and podcasts were held throughout Global Money Week 2026, targeting diverse audiences, including primary and secondary school students, university students, journalists, stakeholders and educators at both secondary and tertiary levels. Guided educational visits were also organised for students, including visits to institutions such as the Central Bank of Cyprus Monetary Museum, the Cyprus Stock Exchange and the Museum of the History of Cypriot Coinage.

These activities formed part of the official programme of the International Financial Literacy Conference and were coordinated by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC), together with the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, the Ministry of Finance, the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), the University of Cyprus (UCY), the Youth Board of Cyprus, the Financial Wellbeing Institute and Artemis Credit Bureau.

Higher education institutions also contributed by organising university-level lectures and participating in outreach activities. In parallel, the national competition for the International Economics Olympiad was organised by the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), with the support of the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC), the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, and the Youth Board of Cyprus.

Educational Materials and Learning Tools

Educational materials were produced and widely disseminated during GMW 2026. Educational tools, such as the storybook “70 Tokos and a Hole in the Shoe,” were used to introduce primary school students to key financial concepts, including budgeting, saving, and managing expenses. Activities were also designed to be cross-curricular, helping secondary school students connect financial literacy concepts with subjects such as economics, technology, IT, and mathematics.

A joint educational package developed by the CBC, CySEC, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth included two posters and educational guides. These materials were distributed to all primary, lower and upper secondary schools, as well as technical schools across Cyprus.

School Visits, Workshops and Lectures

Numerous stakeholders engaged directly with students through school visits and on-site educational activities. The CBC hosted high school students for educational sessions and museum tours. The Ministry of Education also prepared informational leaflets for households, providing practical financial management guidance aimed at promoting responsible budgeting, saving habits, and effective money management in everyday life.

Lectures and workshops were also delivered by other stakeholders, including professional associations and financial institutions. In addition, lectures and webinars were organised in cooperation with external partners such as Junior Achievement Cyprus, PwC, CFA Society Cyprus, the Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and CySEC.

Eurosystem Financial Literacy Initiatives

The Central Bank of Cyprus also participated in an initiative of the Eurosystem Informal Financial Literacy Network, launched on 2 March in collaboration with other central banks. The initiative began with a video featuring central bank governors, who highlighted the important role of central banks in promoting financial literacy and gender equality.

The initiative also included the “EuroSteps Walking Challenge,” introduced by the President of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, under the slogan “Steps to Master Your Money.” The challenge attracted almost 300 participants in Cyprus, combining physical activity with financial education by encouraging participants to walk while receiving short, practical tips designed to strengthen their financial knowledge and support better money management in everyday life.

Engaging the Wider Public

Alongside these initiatives, a range of activities was organised for the general public, including open seminars and lectures, podcasts, educational guides, and knowledge quizzes. By reaching people of different ages and backgrounds, these activities extended financial education beyond the classroom and highlighted the importance of financial knowledge and skills in supporting informed decision-making, effective money management, and financial well-being at the individual, family, and wider societal level.
