Date
10 Mar 2023 - 10 Mar 2023

The international conference organized by the Central Bank of Cyprus on Friday, 10 March 2023, at the Parklane Resort and Spa in Limassol drew significant interest. It was held under the theme: “Financial Literacy and Education in Cyprus: Initiatives, Challenges, Lessons from Other Countries, and the Way Forward.”

The conference was held within the framework of the coordinating role undertaken by the Central Bank of Cyprus for the promotion of financial literacy and financial education in Cyprus, as defined by the National Strategy. It also forms part of the OECD’s international Global Money Week initiative, with the Central Bank of Cyprus acting as the implementing body.

The conference commenced with a morning academic session featuring invited experts specializing in financial literacy, both from Cyprus and abroad. The audience primarily consisted of academics from Cyprus. The academic program was structured into two segments: (a) one focusing on Cyprus’s experience in financial literacy, and (b) another examining the experiences of other countries.

The afternoon session of the conference commenced with an address by the Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus, Mr. Constantinos Herodotou. This was followed by a presentation by Annamaria Lusardi, Professor of Economics and Accountancy at the George Washington University School of Business (GWSB), and founder and Academic Director of the GWSB’s Global Financial Literacy Excellence Center.

Building on the morning’s academic session, this was followed by two panel discussions organized around two main themes: (a) experiences from Cyprus and (b) experiences from other countries. In this part of the conference, the key findings and conclusions drawn from the respective sessions of the morning academic program were presented and discussed.

In addition to the academic community, the afternoon session was also attended by professionals from the financial sector, institutional stakeholders, and educators.
