With reference to the above matter, please be informed that the Directorates of General Secondary Education and Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training are once again actively participating in Global Money Week this year.
This year’s theme for Global Money Week (GMW) is “Smart Money Talks” – “Talk, ask and make smart decisions about our money.” Global Money Week will take place from 16 to 22 March 2026.
Young people today face financial challenges and are called upon to make financial decisions that may affect their future budgets. Actions and decisions such as earning their first income, monitoring and managing expenses, obtaining and repaying student loans, and understanding investment options may create uncertainty among young people, particularly when they feel unsure about asking questions or discussing financial matters with others.
By empowering students with the confidence to talk about their personal finances and providing them with guidance to speak openly and ask questions of appropriately qualified individuals, they are given the opportunity to develop important skills that will enable them to manage their money wisely.
Financial literacy empowers students and contributes to the development of sound financial habits, helping them avoid financial pitfalls and move towards financial well-being.
In this context, the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, through the Inspectorate of Economics and in collaboration with the Cyprus Financial Literacy and Education Committee (CyFLEC), has identified a number of suggested activities that schools may consider and implement, depending on their individual programmes, between 24 February and 22 March 2026:
- Display of posters in all classes of Gymnasiums, Lyceums and Technical Schools. The posters may be obtained through the respective School Board from the warehouse of the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth.
- Preparation and operation of information stands during school breaks. Teachers are invited to set up stands in cooperation with their students within the school premises, where various activities related to this year’s theme will take place. These activities may be held during school breaks, with their duration determined by the school administration. Relevant material from previous activities has been published by the Inspectorate of Economics on the Global Money Week website.
- Undertaking of short research projects on current economic issues, with the aim of linking Economics lessons to developments in the global and Cypriot economies. Students’ research may be used for presentations to other students at events held during school breaks and/or published in the school newspaper or magazine.
- Implementation of creative projects by students, aimed at highlighting topics related to Financial Education, such as creating a game (board game or digital game) or producing a creative video.
- Organisation of cross-curricular and interdisciplinary activities, involving teachers from different subject areas (Economics, Technology, Information Technology, Art, Mathematics, Languages, Home Economics, Career Guidance, etc.).
- Use of newspaper articles or excerpts from news bulletins relating to economic issues and discussion of these topics in the classroom during Economics lessons.
- Creation of a poster or wall calendar featuring engaging captions on a specific topic or, more broadly, promoting financial literacy.
- Organisation of educational visits to places such as the Numismatic Museum of the Central Bank of Cyprus, the Central Bank of Cyprus, the Cyprus Stock Exchange, the Museum of the History of Cypriot Coinage, banks, local businesses, etc.
- Organisation of lectures and/or online discussions on the following topics:

To participate in the lectures, the relevant online registration forms must be submitted by **27 February 2026**, using the links that will be sent by the Inspectorate of Economics to the schools’ email addresses. - Teachers are invited to submit information on the activities carried out at their schools during the above-mentioned period, accompanied by photographs and/or a short video, to the following email address: dme-oikonomiki-paideia@schools.ac.cy (Secondary and Technical Education).
