The Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) announces that Global Money Week, the annual international campaign organised every March by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), will take place from 16 to 22 March 2026.
Once again, the CBC is responsible for coordinating the campaign at the national level in Cyprus, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, the Ministry of Finance, the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission, as well as a wide range of other public institutions, academic institutions, non-governmental organisations and professional associations.
The campaign aims to help children and young people develop the financial knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to make informed and responsible financial decisions and build strong foundations for their future financial well-being.
The theme of Global Money Week 2026, **“Smart Money Talks,”** highlights the importance of challenging the perception that personal finance is a difficult or “taboo” subject. Many young people do not feel comfortable asking for advice or raising questions about financial matters, often because they are unsure where to turn for reliable guidance.
This year’s campaign encourages young people to talk openly about financial matters, share experiences, seek reliable information, ask the right questions and develop the skills they need to manage their money effectively.
Financial literacy plays an essential role in helping young people build confidence, develop healthy financial habits, protect themselves from financial risks and chart their own path towards financial stability and well-being.
As part of the 2026 campaign, the participating organisations are carrying out a wide range of activities in educational settings, including awareness-raising campaigns, educational screenings, presentations, visits and discussions with young people, workshops and seminars, conferences featuring distinguished speakers, the distribution of educational materials and the screening of educational videos on financial literacy topics.
A range of activities has also been planned for the wider public, including open seminars and lectures, the National Competition to select the team that will represent Cyprus at the 2026 International Economics Olympiad, podcasts, the publication of educational guides and knowledge quizzes. These initiatives aim to raise public awareness of the benefits of financial literacy and its contribution to individual, family and broader societal well-being.
