Bringing everything together
Insurance is more than just another financial product.
It is a tool that helps us protect what we work hard to build:
- our health,
- our family,
- our home,
- our work,
- our financial stability.
Like any financial decision, its value does not depend only on the policy we choose, but also on how well we understand and manage it.
Many problems do not arise when something happens, but much earlier, when we choose or manage our insurance.
One of the most common mistakes is choosing an insurance policy based solely on price. A low premium may seem attractive, but if it comes with limited coverage or a high deductible, it may not provide the protection we actually need.
Another common mistake is failing to read the exclusions in our policy. Many of us assume that “everything is covered”, only to discover that a particular event or circumstance is excluded from our insurance coverage.
Difficulties can also arise when we fail to inform our insurance company about significant changes in our lives, such as buying a new home, renovating a property, changing how we use a vehicle or starting a new business activity.
Finally, some claims are delayed because we have not kept the necessary supporting documents or because we fail to notify the insurance company promptly when an incident occurs.
⚠️ Effective protection comes not only from having a policy, but from understanding and managing it properly.
A Home Damaged by Severe Weather
Andreas lives in a community in the Paphos district. Following severe weather, the roof of his home suffered significant damage.Because he had a home insurance policy that covered damage caused by extreme weather events, the insurance company covered most of the repair costs, after deducting the excess specified in his policy
Road
Accident in Nicosia
Eleni was involved
in a road accident while waiting at a traffic light.
Her insurance company covered the cost of repairing her vehicle, in accordance with the terms of her policy, and also provided her with a replacement car while her own vehicle was being repaired.
Complementary
health coverage
Yiannis uses GeSY
for most of his healthcare needs but also has private health insurance.
When he needed scheduled surgery at a private hospital, his insurance policy covered a significant part of the cost, in accordance with the terms of his coverage.
Protecting the Family
Maria and her husband have two young children and a mortgage.
They chose to take out life insurance so that, if something were to happen to either of them, their family would have financial support and greater security in meeting their essential financial commitments.
💡 Each family is different. The right insurance protection is the one that reflects our own circumstances, not necessarily the choices someone else has made.
- What risks matter most in our life today?
- Do we know what our current policies actually cover?
- If something serious happened, would we know how to respond?
Let’s take a moment to reflect on what we have learned:
- Can we explain in simple terms what premium, coverage, and deductible mean?
- Do we know what insurance coverage we currently have—and whether it still meets our needs?
- When comparing policies, do we look only at the price, or do we also consider the coverage, exclusions and claims process?
- Would we know what steps to take if we needed to submit a claim?
- Is there any type of insurance we should consider reviewing?
There are no perfect answers—only progress.
